The division’s production range comprises four major areas of application:

  • Strip steels for the production of saws to cut wood, stone, plastics, metals and foodstuffs
  • Strip steels (rule die steel, cutting and creasing rules) to punch cardboard, paper, plastics, leather and textiles
  • Strip steels for the automotive industry (rule dies) as well as the production of ball bearings and special strip steel for various applications (e.g. the manufacture of watches, machinery construction, knife production, etc.)
  • Special cold rolled strip steel in very thin widths for valves, razor blades, scalpels, needles, weave reed, crepping coater blades and printing coater blades.

The pre-material for strip steel products is hot rolled strip, which is produced at the Wetzlar site and sold primarily to the production companies in the division. This pre-material is subsequently cold rolled several times with various rolling mills. The strip steel is then given the desired structural conditions through treatment in bell furnaces and annealing lines. Processing into the final product is monitored by continuous quality controls.

The strip steels made by the division are characterized above all by tightest width and thickness tolerances, application-specific metallurgical characteristics as well as special surface and edging properties.

A particular strength of the division is the production of bimetal strip steel. This production process involves the joining of two different materials through beam welding (laser or electron welding). Bimetallic strip steels are used, for example, in the production of saw blades – the specially selected combination of materials gives these steels exactly the properties required by customers.
