The most important products made by the High Performance Metals Division are:

Tool steel, whereby a differentiation is made between cold work steel, hot work steel and plastics molding steel. Cold work steel is used in the production of tools such as cutting, punching and stamping tools. Hot work steel is required in tools for forging, die casting and the extrusion of metals. Plastics molding steel forms the basis for making the molds and dies that are needed to manufacture plastic products.

High-speed steel for the production of industrial drills and cutters, which are tools that rotate quickly when in use.

Valve steel that is used in combustion engines.

Powder-metallurgical steel which is extremely durable, wear- and corrosion-resistant and thereby extends the life cycle of tools.

Special engineering steels that are used above all in energy generation technology, for example in the gearbox housing of wind generators.

Special grades steel for components that must meet specific requirements such as heat resistance, corrosion resistance and toughness and are used primarily by the aircraft industry, automobile and machinery construction as well as medical applications.

Nickel-based alloys and high-alloy bars, sheets, plates, wire and profiles form the top-end category in this division. They are used in highly demanding applications by the aircraft and aerospace industries as well as the chemical and offshore sectors.

The High Performance Metals Division also provides a wide range of services to customers throughout the world with its wholly owned sales companies. Among others, these services include heat treatment, machining and etching. Customers can therefore benefit from a complete value added chain from a single supplier: production, sales and services – one factor that clearly distinguishes BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM from the competition.

The High Performance Metals Division is the largest core business area in the BÖHLER-UDDEHOLM Group and generates roughly 70% of net sales.
